A driving career that suits you
Bidfood drivers choose to work with us for a whole host of reasons. Some are experienced – and tell us they like the fact they have supportive managers and organised teams who make it easier to do a great job they can be proud of. Others are new to the driving life, but love meeting people, and like the way they can put their customer service skills to good use, everywhere from pubs to schools. Still others love the flexible working patterns, including term-time only shifts, and the fact that they get home every night. All of our drivers take real pride in providing great food and great service across 60,000 deliveries a week. Together we are helping to rebuild the nation and the hospitality industry, working to make history during these unprecedented times.
You’ll be delivering great food and other catering products to a huge range of customers. From restaurants and pubs, to schools, care homes and hospitals, you will be helping the nation return to normality whilst still helping those in need. Our vehicles are all kitted out with the latest tech, including telematics, but you’ll have to use plenty of initiative to find the drop off points. Once there, you’ll be delivering the goods often straight to the chefs and managers who make the orders – so building up a good rapport with them is important. You’ll be the one transferring the goods from your lorry to the customers on cages stacked with pallets. Some orders can be large, so it’s a job with a real physical element.
Don’t worry, we won’t throw you in at the deep end. We’ll train you on our systems and set you up with a buddy driver to learn on the job, until you’re ready to go out on the road on your own.
What you’ll need
You’ll need to be efficient and organised, you need to enjoy the challenge of being given a lorry full of goods and getting it to the right people at the right time. Personality is key. You’ll interact with the customers at every drop off – so you’ll need to enjoy meeting them, and doing all you can to make their life easier. Plus, you need to able to move sometimes heavy cages and pallets. Health and safety is our top priority and so we will make sure you have all the latest training and PPE you will need to carry out these responsibilities safely.
Qualifications-wise, you need a category C LGV License. You’ll also have your digital tachograph driver card and your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), or be willing to train for it. We’ll pay for ongoing CPC development to help you keep these qualifications up to date.
You’ll be home every night. There are early starts, but work finishes when your list of deliveries for the day does. It’s a 5 shifts in 7 days model, but the majority of your shifts will fall Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend working. Should you want it, there’s also the opportunity for overtime. We’ll also give you all the training you need on our systems, vehicles and kit, and a chance to learn with a buddy driver before you begin. Then there’s 33 days’ paid holiday, great healthcare benefits, pension, and an exclusive range of over 4,000 high street discounts.
