Hospital food trends

We understand that you need to react quickly to the latest health and wellbeing trends to stay in line with the evolving recommendations. Add health trends into a mix of indulgence and cuisine trends to make an interesting opportunity for hospitals to manipulate to their advantage.

Trends to consider

1

Grab and go

Over half of all consumers buy meals on-the-go.* There is a widening variety of outlets, kiosks and pop-ups that offer global meal choices. As a result of the demand, diners are keen to see their favourite sit-in restaurants offer a takeaway option. This is filtering through to the hospital market where staff and visitors are interested in seeing sit down and grab & go offers.

Better me

Healthy foods are all the rage at the moment as infused waters, low sugar snacks and high protein hits continue to grow! Attract your staff and visitors to purchase a healthier snack in your retail outlets with a range of innovative, on trend products that will encourage daily purchasing. Check out our snacking range for CQUIN 1B compliant products fitting this trend.***

Great Britain

Backing British is increasingly a focus for our nation’s consumers, be that eating out or shopping for the home. Consumers are developing a passion to support British farmers, artisan producers and local growers. 55% of shoppers are influenced by the Red Tractor logo when deciding on what food to buy so including a range of accredited products not only pleases your customers but also helps towards the Food for Life catering mark.**

Our support tools

Key support tools for your hospital:

CQUIN 1B

We’re here to help you with CQUIN 1B. Our support goes beyond supplying you with the products you need. We’ve recently launched our own guide which contains a host of information to help you, including:

  • A summary of the guidelines
  • Key points on the funding available and the deadlines
  • Hints and tips on compliance

Suitable products for each part of your catering offer; retail, vending, restaurant & patient feeding

CQUIN 1B report

To help you continually comply with CQUIN 1B we have developed our CQUIN 1B report. The report breaks down our entire range of products and details the fat, sugar and salt values for each product using the traffic lighted system. The green, amber and red traffic light colours help to provide you with a clear indication whether the product you are purchasing from us is compliant, assisting you with the continual tracking of the products you sell, in relation to part B of CQUIN 1B.

CQUIN 1B Guide

We’re also constantly developing our range to ensure we have the range of innovative CQUIN 1B compliant products that you need to comply and also generate profit with! Speak to your local sales representative to discuss the full package of CQUIN 1B support.

Achieving food for life

We’re also a member of the Soil Association’s Catering Mark Supplier Scheme. The Food for Life Catering Mark is a Soil Association assurance scheme to help leading caterers give their customers the confidence that the products they are buying meet the matters they care about.

We are able to provide you with over 9000 products which meet at least one of the standards, and will help you work towards the Bronze, Silver or Gold accreditation.

Managing allergens

One third of the UK population will develop an allergy at some time in their lives. The demand for ‘free from’ products is increasing, so it’s important to know how to cater for allergies and intolerances.

Our team of experts at the Bidfood Advice Centre are available for all your units to answer any question about our products.
