Pork holds a place on menus from breakfast right through to dinner. Our range includes bacon, sausages, gammon and larger roasting joints; we’ve got every meal occasion covered.


Our story

Farmstead pork is bred in East Yorkshire and Norfolk; both areas with excellent agricultural heritage in both pig and animal feed production; which offers real efficiency in the supply chain. The location of the abattoirs means that 80% of our pigs travel less than 60 miles for processing. This means that the welfare of the animals remains at a high standard, with less stress due to travel for the animal.


The high quality of the pork we supply is recognised by the awards which continue to be received across all of our product categories. We pride ourselves on the quality of our products producing British pork, generally of higher welfare standards; within our integrated supply chain. We also have long standing partnerships on the continent, enabling us to source EU meat.


As a heritage business, promoting modern traditional products, we take pride in our processing facilities that employ over 300 butchers; all highly skilled using traditional techniques for top quality work, coupled with cutting edge technology to ensure the processes are as efficient and safe as possible. Our pork comes from a range of breeds such as Large Whites, Hampshire and Breckland. We also offer rare breeds such as Gloucester Old Spot and Duroc.


We work with both indoor and outdoor farms; with 45% of our 40,000 pigs processed a week being Freedom Food higher welfare while are all compliant with Red Tractor and British Quality Assured Pork (BQAP) welfare standards.


With over 30 years of farming expertise, we guarantee a consistent quality product; perfect for roasting, slow cooking, stir frying and more. While pork is a traditional British meat, perfect served with apple, seasonal vegetables and a rich gravy, there is more to this versatile protein. From sticky Asian pork stir fry through to BBQ pulled pork shoulder, international flavours work perfectly with various cuts of pork.


Our farmer’s stories

The family farm where we source our pork from at Bidfood is called ‘Dagmarsgaard’, which is situated on the east coast of Jutland, Denmark. The farm was bought in 1822 by Hans Jensen’s great-great-great-grandfather, Hans Jensen! Since then, the farm has seen 200 years of fast-moving developments in Danish agriculture.


These deep-rooted relationships mean sustainability, traceability, consistent quality and treatment of our farmers and animals are of the upmost importance. The female breeds making up the dam line will include Duroc, Large White and Landrace breeds, while the sire lines will range from Hampshire, Piétrain types and White cross-type sires or boars.


“Our pigs enjoy a vegetarian, specifically cereal-based feed; wheat or barley. The health and wellbeing of our animals is of upmost importance which is why their diet will alter in terms of composition throughout the lifetime of the pig as its nutrient requirements will consistently change.  Rearing livestock well and ensuring that high welfare standards apply throughout the animal’s life are vital to ensuring the quality of the meat we sell.  We are committed to keeping animals safe, comfortable, and healthy. Health benefits from pork 

Pork provides protein, zinc and phosphorus which contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. It’s also a source of potassium which aids muscle function and a source of niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, vitamins B6 and B12 which help reduce tiredness and fatigue. Pork is also rich in thiamin and a source of selenium which contributes towards good health and well-being.
