How you can support hospitality this Christmas
It’s no secret that hospitality has been hit incredibly hard by the ongoing pandemic. As the industry faces yet another blow, with many of us entering the country’s toughest restrictions, we wanted to provide hope and offer our support, whilst raising funds for those who need it most.
To add to what has been a year we could have never predicted, we devised a plan to highlight the resilience our incredible industry has shown over the course of this year. We launched a Christmas charity single, with funds raised going directly to our friends at Hospitality Action.
We wanted the single to shine a light on those impacted, but also to represent that despite the challenges, we will overcome them together. Collectively known as ‘Our Hospitality Voices’, the single, which is a cover of ‘The Climb’ by Miley Cyrus, is made up of customers and employees, the team at Hospitality Action and celebrity chefs, Brian Turner and Mark Sargeant.
The cause was extremely close to the hearts of those who took part in the charity single. Here’s what they had to say…
“I have had nearly 60 years in this fabulous industry! I have worked in great hotels and starred restaurants and believe we are here to make people happy around the table with food and drink. On the day of the recording we had fun and laughter as well as nerves, I think they turned my mic off when we finished rehearsals!”
Brian Turner, Hospitality Action and Patron
“Hospitality has played a big part of my life alongside my passion for food. I’ve been working in the industry on and off for the past 12 years, and it’s where I have decided to continue my career. Performing on the day was slightly nerve-racking, not knowing what to expect when you turn up. I’ve been lucky enough to record in a studio before, however the team and the producer made me feel super relaxed. Once we got going it was really fun and I didn’t want to stop. Can we go again please?”
Rusty Warren, Innovation and Insights Manager, Subway
“With the festive trading period in jeopardy many hospitality businesses will be making the tough decision to reduce their headcount or even to close for good. Yet hospitality people are known for their resilience and are a multitalented bunch, as demonstrated by the amazing vocals on this single. By purchasing a copy you’ll be helping hospitality families put food on the table and keep a roof over their head this Christmas.”
Andy Kemp, Group Sales and Marketing Director, Bidfood UK
“When I heard that Bidfood would be releasing a Christmas single to raise money for our charity, I loved the idea. What better way to share the joy music brings, share the love, raise money and bring support and happiness to our industry colleagues who’ve had such a rough ride this year. Once I put the headphones on and stood in front of the microphone I felt I was part of something special. It doesn’t matter how hard life is at the moment, we will get through this together.”
Maria Carter, Fundraising and Marketing Executive, Hospitality Action
All of the proceeds from the Our Hospitality Voices – The Climb will go directly towards helping to support hospitality people across the UK who have been directly affected by the pandemic, this Christmas.
