Warehouse operative

The best team - Warehouse

Dealing with the incoming suppliers, investigating stock issues and keeping our depots in good operational order are important roles of our warehouse teams. James explains how he worked his way up and across into a Warehouse Manager role.

Meet James…

I joined Bidfood as an agency HGV driver in 2010, and worked my way through the transport department, to become a supervisor when we moved to our new site at Chepstow. We increased from 24 to 45 routes a day, so it was a busy and challenging role!

Then the opportunity arose to join the management team in the warehouse, and I’ve not looked back since. Even now, I’m still learning something new every day!

As Dayshift Warehouse Manager, my main duties are to work with my team of 25 to manage ‘Goods In’ and the replenishment of ambient, chilled and frozen stock into Chepstow depot. We pride ourselves on our operational standards, so it’s also part of my role to make sure we’re “audit ready” at all times, so that high standards just become part of our daily routine.

I hold regular one-to-one meetings with all of my team, and I like to support them in learning new tasks to broaden their skills. I also work very closely with the stock team and we support each other to make sure availability of products is good for the nightshift team, and ultimately our customers.

I really enjoy the variety of the role, and the depot overall – something different happens every day, depending on what’s on and which employees, suppliers and visitors are in.

I also help with night shift and transport when they need support, to keep the depot running smoothly. Whatever the challenges, we work together to get the job done.
