Kenco. Made to uplift.
We are proud that for 100 years, people have been inviting Kenco into their businesses to fuel uplifting moments. As we reflect on a century of great tasting coffee, we focus on the future, and we continue with our quest to pioneer and innovate, to bring together entire communities, and uplift each other.
Key moments of the last century - our story
-
1923 THE KENYAN COFFEE COMPANY
Our cooperative was founded by Kenyan farmers, selling from Mayfair and through mail order to British country houses.
-
1930’s BUSINESS EXPANDS
Take over premises in Earlsfield and Bermondsey, as well as opening up our own chain of branded coffee houses.
-
1962 INTERNATIONAL SOURCING
We expanded into retail, opening what we believe was the first branded coffee shop chain in the UK.
-
1980’s NEW ERA FOR INSTANT
Our new instant coffee launches, sold in a special jar from Japan, supported by two decades of iconic advertising campaigns.
-
2000s ETHICAL ACTIONS
Our focus on sustainability grows. In 2003 we begin working with the Rainforest Alliance, and all our coffee is certified by 2010, followed by many further initiatives.
-
2014 THE KENYAN COFFEE COMPANY
In 2014, we started the Coffee vs Gangs initiative, a long-term commitment to creating opportunities for young people.
-
2010 to present – STILL PIONEERING
We continue to launch world-first instant coffees. From Millicano in 2011, to the first instant flat white in 2017; 2019’s Ice Latte, and more.
WHY KENCO?
- Instant coffee is still #1 in the out of home market, with 47% market share*
- No matter how you like your coffee, there’s a Kenco for everyone
- Since initiatives began in 2003, our focus on sustainability is still going strong
