Transport Manager (Urban Foods) – Paddock Wood

At Urban Foodservice, we recognise that the quality of our transport teams is instrumental to our success. Our Transport Manager needs to be able to lead, recruit, induct, train, mentor, engage and inspire. On top of this you will be required to debrief the drivers on return and route their deliveries for the following day as well as manage rotas and sick and holiday cover.

You’ll manage the daily operation and performance of the whole transport department for Urban Foodservice in order to provide the expected service to internal and external customers. In doing so, you’ll make sure the fleet is fully legally compliant in accordance with relevant legislation for Transportation, Health and Safety, Food Safety and Environment and all goods are delivered to designated delivery points in the timescale required.

You’ll ensure effective leadership and teamwork within the Transport Department and that all transport employees adhere to the required standards of performance ensuring all transport KPIs are achieved on a consistent basis. As well as work well with the other departments within Urban Foodservice to ensure outstanding customer service.

The successful applicant will oversee Mercedes Sprinter vans with a 950kg payload with the hope of expanding the fleet to more vans and introducing some larger payload vehicles such as a 7.5tonne lorry. Experience and/or knowledge on larger vehicles will be helpful.

You will have responsibility for the following subordinates; 13 Drivers with the expectation of this team growing larger as the business expands. It will be your responsibility to deal with all transport related issue including but not limited to; debriefing, routing, rotas, driver hours, holiday management, training and inductions, disciplinary and dismissals, hiring staff, accident investigations, van checks and inspections, ordering uniforms and equipment, ensuring company equipment standard is maintained, possible driver cover.

To be successful in this role you’ll have very strong people management and development skills and be able to build strong relationships with other departments. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-moving food distribution environment and experience or strong knowledge of local areas and London with routing, you will also have good computer literacy skills and be flexible in order to meet the needs of the business.
