Trainee Technical Assistant – Slough

This role will support the Technical Support team and report into the Head of Technical Services. The Trainee Technical Assistant will be a key member of the Technical Support function whose primary responsibilities include the management of the Quality Management System that includes regulatory, legal and standards compliance. Providing technical advice to customers both internal and external, customer complaint management and management of product quarantine and recalls. Ensuring our internal audit schedule is adhered to as well as product testing and analysis and management of full supplier approval processes

The role accountabilities:

  • General administration duties associated with the role and in supporting the development, management and evolution of the Bidfood Technical Services Quality Management System (QMS)
  • An advisor on technical matters offering timely support and guidance to internal teams and customers
  • Supporting supplier approval responsibilities for new and existing suppliers against a backdrop of Bidfood policy and procedures
  • Communicating effectively in the department and outside the department to support the Bidfood strategy with focus on building stronger relationships with our customers both internal and external
  • Assist when needed in dealing with critical product issues such as quarantines and product recalls
  • Contribute to audits and customer visits of the Technical Services department, providing administrative support in maintaining all accreditations and certifications whilst giving great customer service and resolving areas of non conformance
  • Monitor and report any emerging food and business issues through media channels or regulatory bodies, ensuring Bidfood Technical Services are 1st to know and can be proactive
  • Organise sampling and analysis of the product portfolio, interpreting the results and carrying out appropriate corrective actions
  • Successful, organised, timely and diligent project management as set by line manager
  • Support all elements of the Technical Services function from time to time, this will include but not limited to nutritional recipe management, Advice Centre/ Customer Care 1st line support and depot visits to verify product information held e.g. logistical and labelling data

The candidate:

  • Background and/or interest in food preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn and possibly study towards a qualification
  • A degree in a food science related discipline
  • Good communication and influencing skills – oral and written
  • Strong drive with excellent organisational skills
  • Computer literate. Word, Excel and Outlook skills are essential
