Our Stories: Drivers
This is more than ‘just a driving job’. As the face of our business, you’ll work hard to keep each of your customers happy, delivering temperature controlled products to multiple locations, with a smile.
Read MoreWe have exciting apprenticeship opportunities in our Transport department at our head office depot in Slough. As part of this apprenticeship you will learn what it takes to become a great multi-drop HGV driver whilst gaining your Class 2/Category C licence.
After successfully completing the 13 month apprenticeship programme, you’ll be a qualified, professional and competent HGV Driver in a permanent role at Bidfood. During this time you can expect an excellent working environment, job security, a fantastic development opportunity, and a great salary and benefits package.
Although the training and day to day activities can be flexible to meet your individual needs, there will be an element of structure to your learning. You will be working towards and acquiring the Class 2/Category C HGV licence which will involve driver theory and practical tests, with the aim of acquiring your licence at 6 months; we’ll then work with you to build your confidence and practice driving a HGV vehicle. Plus as a HGV Driver there are lots of elements to learn so as part of the scheme you will cover defensive driving, optimising fuel efficiency, legislation and technology, effective communication, safe loading, vulnerable road users, drivers’ hours/tachographs and many more!
There will be a mix of on-the-job and off-the-job training, so it will require you to be self-motivated with the ability to work towards targets both on and off the road. You will have the full support from the Transport Management team, Driver Trainer and your mentor as we work with you to work towards and successfully complete the end point assessment in Month 13.
You’ll possess a driving licence with a minimum of 1 years driving experience with no more than 6 points. You’ll enjoy a challenge and care about helping our customers succeed, taking pride in being the face of our company to so many people every day. You’ll have the desire to learn and work hard towards achieving this qualification, whilst understanding how our business works. You’ll need to also have a basic level of Maths and English as you’ll be required to pass an assessment prior to starting the course.
You can apply by sending your CV to Tasha Martin, HR Business Partner at tashamartin@bidfood.co.uk or posting to Bidfood, 814 Leigh Road, Slough, SL1 4BD. Alternatively you can pop into the depot and fill out an application form.
