Buyer – Slough/ Nottingham

The Procurement team is responsible for the sourcing of all indirect (non-inventory) goods and services across BFS Group Ltd, spending over £160m each year with approximately 1800 suppliers across Bidfood, Bidfresh, Caterfood Buying Group and our manufacturing businesses.

Key responsibilities of this role will cover strategic sourcing, supplier relationship management, stakeholder engagement, commercial and contract negotiations.


As a Buyer, you will:

  • Manage strategic procurement projects from start to finish; be responsible for defining requirements, including the creation of tender documents, analysing proposals and providing detailed contract summaries for approval
  • Analyse complex sets of data and be able to competently communicate and present the findings
  • Work closely with senior internal stakeholders and key decision makers across a broad range of categories to challenge and develop business requirements.
  • Lead complex commercial negotiations
  • Review and negotiate contract Terms with the support of our in-house legal counsel
  • Deliver projects / contracts that help reduce costs, mitigate risks and secure preferential terms and conditions that will ultimately create value and improve our competitive advantage
  • Once you have executed a contract, you will hand over the day to day contract and supplier management to the key stakeholder, but remain available to support and be consulted should any issues arise


What you need for this role:

  • CIPS qualification preferred but not essential
  • Minimum 5 years strategic procurement experience across a range of indirect spend areas. Experience of IT procurement would be beneficial
  • You will be a self-starter and highly motivated
  • Ability to review contract Terms, interpret key clauses and identify areas for discussion
  • Articulate communicator who is confident leading discussions and challenging views, able to steer conversations to make decisions. A natural influencer
  • Process driven, able to work under pressure and can positively engage internal customers to ensure their collaboration
  • You’ll need to be adaptable and well organised to support a variety of projects with good commercial awareness and analytical skills. We need a good communicator, who is articulate (verbally and written), customer focused and driven by results. Some travelling will be involved in this role. Driving licence essential.
  • Comfortable engaging with and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Excellent PC skills, particularly MS Excel
