It’s been a busy couple of months as the Care Dine with Me judges – including Sue Dunk; Editor of Care Home Catering, Matt Dodge; Kerrymaid’s Care Ambassador, and Wayne Wright; Bidvest Food Development Chef – took to the road to visit our five finalists across the country.
Given the quantity of entries received, our shortlist was in fact five care homes rather than four. Our finalists included:
- Claybourne Care Home, Stoke-on-Trent
- Brook House Care Centre, South East London
- Tower Bridge Care Home, London
- Sunrise of Eastbourne, East Sussex
- Hodge Hill Grange, West Midlands
After much deliberation and debate, Sunrise of Eastbourne was crowned Care Dine with Me champion! Having hosted a prosecco afternoon tea, including a variety of dysphagia friendly sandwiches and sweet treats, the judges were overwhelmed with Sunrise’s emphasis on special events, which were not only open to relatives but which encouraged residents to eat and drink in a relaxed environment. Other regular activities include baking, sweet-making and veg prep, while regular outings to local pubs, hotels and garden centres also take place.
Care Home Catering will be showcasing a full review of the winning entry in its winter issue which will be available from November.
