Bidvest Foodservice has won a bronze award for Environmental Best Practice in the Food & Drink category of the Green Apple awards, which took place at the House of Commons Monday morning 14 Nov.
The Green Apple Best Environmental Practice Awards recognised Bidvest Foodservice’s future-focused strategy to lead the foodservice sustainability agenda through its four key pillars: collaboration; sustainable lifestyle and products; food and packaging waste; and distribution.
The judges praised, amongst other achievements, the company’s focus on collaboration, which has been a fundamental focus for Bidvest Foodservice.
A year on from the launch of the website plate2planet.co.uk, powered by Bidvest Foodservice, the industry’s first collaborative initiative has successfully brought together people across the industry. Its aim is to encourage innovation and, by working in partnership with others, achieve sustainability improvement across the foodservice and hospitality sectors.
To mark a year since the website’s launch, Bidvest Foodservice and other plate2planet partners held a sustainability summit – plate2planet Live – earlier this week which saw high-profile speakers and industry leaders come together to discuss hot topics including waste management, sugar, and gearing up for the future of sustainability.
Shirley Duncalf, Head of Sustainability at Bidvest Foodservice, said: “We are delighted to have won this award, which recognises our hard work in driving progress in sustainability.
“At Bidvest Foodservice we take this issue seriously, and concentrate on what is real and valuable to our customers. Our sustainability initiatives reflect an understanding of what stakeholders currently want, and what may be required in the future. We also provide support, advice and guidance to our customers, making it easier for them to make sustainable choices.”
